Real Madrid moved swiftly after the end of the 2024/25 domestic season on Saturday afternoon, announcing Xabi Alonso as their new coach on Sunday as they turn all attentions to the Club World Cup which will start for Los Blancos in Miami on June 18th.

The team will now enjoy a week off before reuniting at their Valdebebas training camp on June 2nd, taking part in training under Alonso for the first time.

Real Madrid is now keen to back their coach by bringing in new signings to bolster the squad, and their could be more than one new face among those taking to the fields of the training ground in a week’s time.

Bournemouth defender Dean Huijsen has already been confirmed to be joining the club ahead of the Club World Cup, and there could be other players joining him.

Trent Alexander-Arnold (Real Madrid to Liverpool)

While it may seem like this transfer is already a done deal, it’s worth remembering that his arrival in the Spanish capital has not yet been officially announced. The England international has confirmed that he won’t extend his existing Liverpool contract beyond its current expiration date of June 30th, but Real Madrid remains in talks with Liverpool to bring him to Spain before then.

Lucas Navarrete of Managing Madrid reports that talks are close to an agreement worth €5 million ($5.7 million) to have the Liverpudlian among the Los Blancos ranks ahead of the tournament. That would see the recently-crowned Premier League champion move to Spain in the next few weeks to provide cover with veteran defender Dani Carvajal yet to return from a long-term injury and replacement Lucas Vázquez set to depart after the Club World Cup.

Álvaro Carreras (Benfica to Real Madrid)

Having previously played for the club at youth level, Álvaro Carreras is no stranger to Real Madrid despite having left for Manchester United in 2020. The 23-year-old left-back is one of European soccer’s hot properties this summer after impressing for Portuguese side Benfica this season.

Diario MARCA says that the two parties are negotiating as Real Madrid attempt to reduce the price tag from his €50 million ($56.9 million) release clause. Benfica seems to be reluctant to give in and with time not on their side, Real Madrid could cough up the full amount to bring in competition for Ferland Mendy and Fran García at left-back.

Álvaro Carreras could arrive as one of Xabi Alonso’s first signings.

Joan García (Espanyol to Real Madrid)

With doubts surrounding the future of Andriy Lunin, who could look for first-team soccer next season, Real Madrid may be forced to move in the market for a goalkeeper despite already having one of the best in the world in the shape of Thibaut Courtois. The Belgian is now 33 and the club could look for a younger deputy to rival him and lend ay step. One talent on the move could be García as Fabrizio Romano is among the sources claiming that La Liga champions Barcelona could make a €25 million ($28.4 million) offer for one of the stars of the season in Joan García. The Espanyol shotstopper topped the rankings in the league this season with an incredible 3.8 saves per 90 minutes.

However, reports from Relevo’s Matteo Morreto claim that García himself is not keen on a move across the city to his team’s local rivals. Instead, he could prefer a move to England and the Premier League, where he is also believed to have suitors. Real Madrid may still be a contender, but they could have to move quickly.

Jesús Vallejo (Real Madrid to Rayo Vallecano)

While three first-team players are expected to leave Real Madrid upon the expiry of their contracts this summer, the only one who is unlikely to remain at the club for the tournament is Jesús Vallejo. The 28-year-old defender made only four appearances this season, three coming in the final three games of the season, and he is not part of Xabi Alonso’s plans.

Estadio Deportivo claims that he will join Rayo Vallecano, who qualified for the UEFA Conference League next season on the final day of the season. The deal will be a free transfer with no fee heading Real Madrid’s way, but it could help a man who was once tipped as one of the greats of his generation to reestablish his career with more regular first-team action.
