Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars’s “Die With a Smile” spends a fourteenth week at No. 1 on the Billboard … More
Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars are steady at No. 1 on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. chart this week — again. The duo’s collaboration “Die With a Smile” continues to prove itself to be a true powerhouse, and every frame it keeps at No. 1, it inches closer and closer to being named the most successful song of all time on that tally.
Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars Match Mariah Carey’s Record
“Die With a Smile” rules the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. for a fourteenth nonconsecutive week, putting Gaga and Mars in rare company. The tally, which only counts sales and streams from outside the U.S. to show what the world is listening to, is one of two major worldwide charts Billboard compiles each week, and the single is currently in charge of both.
With its fourteenth frame at No. 1, “Die With a Smile” matches Mariah Carey’s holiday staple “All I Want for Christmas Is You” as the second-longest-running chart-topper in the history of the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. If the pair can hold on for one more week — and all signs suggest they will — they’ll break that newly-formed tie and claim the runner-up spot outright.
That said, Carey may return to reclaim her place later this year. Her beloved Christmas anthem typically surges up the Billboard charts in December, and another seasonal run to the top could shuffle this ranking again.
Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars Pass Harry Styles and Miley Cyrus
Just last week, “Die With a Smile” was tied as the third-longest-running No. 1 in the chart’s history. It had matched the 13-frame runs logged by Harry Styles’s “As It Was” and Miley Cyrus’s “Flowers,” both of which dominated in 2022 and 2023, respectively. Now, the Grammy-winning duet pushes ahead of both of those tracks for good.
Bruno Mars Now Owns Two of the Longest-Running No. 1s
Mars isn’t just sharing this win with Gaga — he’s also making history on his own terms. With “Die With a Smile” now among the sturdiest leaders ever on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S., the singer-songwriter claims a rare distinction: he appears on two of the three longest-running No. 1s in the chart’s history.
His collaboration with Blackpink star Rosé, “Apt.,” a Korean/English duet that took the world by storm last year, still leads the pack. That track managed a staggering 19-week reign at No. 1 — more than a month longer than Carey’s holiday favorite.
At this point, it’s hard to say whether “Die With a Smile” has another five weeks (or more) at No. 1 in it. That continued success is certainly not impossible for the cut, though it’s also far from guaranteed – but in only a few more frames, Mars may match his own best showing, making history again.
