A teen driver faces charges in the March 12 crash that killed his passenger.
Issac Giovani Sales, age 18, of Fort Myers, was driving a car on Gladiolus Drive approaching a red traffic signal at Maida Lane about 6:45 a.m. Florida Highway Patrol troopers said Sales failed to stop.
His car hit an SUV as it attempted to turn on a green light, crash reports indicate. The SUV collided with a wastewater lift station, seriously injuring the driver.

Sales’ passenger, a 17-year-old Fort Myers girl, died on the scene, and Sales was seriously injured, troopers reported.
A properly parked vehicle in the 7800 block of Gladiolus Drive was also damaged by crash debris, troopers said.
Sales was arrested soon after his release from the hospital, troopers said, and faces charges of vehicular homicide, reckless driving involving serious injury, and reckless driving involving property damage.

Lee County Jail records indicate he was booked on Wednesday and remained in jail overnight with bond not set. He’s due in court on May 12.
Lee County roads have had at least 36 fatalities in 2025, as reported by Florida Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles.
