Prince Harry in UK Court Appealing the Government’s Decision to Downgrade His Security Arrangements

Prince Harry lives a life filled with conflict.

The prodigal son is back home.

Once the most beloved member of the Windsor dynasty in the United Kingdom, Prince Harry made the controversial decision of abandoning the role of ‘working Royal’, moved to the US with his wife and children, and spiraled into a life of conflict.

Conflict with his own father the King and his brother the heir to the throne; conflict with his hated step-Mother the Queen; conflict with the mainstream media; conflict with the Chairwoman of the Charity he founded; conflict with the government over his security arrangements.

In a way, the downgrade imposed on his security apparatus is symbolic, and reflexive of the downgrade that he suffered at the heart of his once great Kingdom.

This week, Prince Harry is in court to appeal a government decision – and a High Court ruling – to downgrade the security arrangements he gets while in the UK.

BBC reported:

“The prince’s taxpayer-funded protection was changed in 2020, after he stopped being a working royal.

His lawyer argues he has been ‘singled out for different, unjustified and inferior treatment’. But the barrister representing the government tells the court the decision that Harry’s UK security would be considered on a case-by-case basis was rightly taken.”

The Duke of Sussex says his visits to the UK have become rare due to the downgraded security.

His UK security at this point has been decided like other high-profile visitors – but Harry argues that’s unfair as he still faces significant security threats.

“The Court of Appeal today heard Prince Harry’s case for appeal against a High Court ruling that backed a move to decide on security for his visits to the UK on a case-by-case basis.

[…] He has previously emphasized the importance of safety for his children – saying he wants them to feel at home in the UK.”

The hearing will resume tomorrow, with a final judgement due in writing at a later date.
