Prosecutors will seek first-degree murder convictions against four suspects in a December shooting in a west Erie neighborhood that killed a city teenager and wounded another boy.
The Erie County District Attorney’s Office made its intentions known Tuesday afternoon during the formal arraignments for the four suspects charged in the death of 17-year-old Armoni Cantu: Jahmeir O. Bibbs, 18, who was 17 at the time of the shooting; Jamarion J.L. Boone, 17; Cire J. Brown-House, 18; and Martavion C.D. Thompson, 18.
The four remain in custody without bond. Erie County Judge John Trucilla scheduled their trials for October.
The Erie County District Attorney’s Office said it will seek first-degree murder convictions against four suspects in the fatal shooting on Dec. 18 of 17-year-old Armoni Cantu at West 31st and Liberty streets in Erie.
Bibbs, Boone, Brown-House and Thompson are accused of being involved in a Dec. 18 shooting at West 31st and Liberty streets that killed Cantu and wounded another 17-year-old boy. Authorities said Cantu and the other boy were not the intended targets of the shooting.
According to police and court testimony, the shooting stemmed from an altercation at Erie High School earlier in the day on Dec. 18. Bibbs and Thompson testified during the preliminary hearings for their codefendants in February that Boone had a beef with another student, and that they expected Boone and the other student to fight after school. But after driving around looking for the other student, the group pulled onto West 31st Street and Boone leaned out a vehicle window and fired gunshots, according to the testimony.
