CLINTON — The Historical Society of Clinton will host a presentation on the history of a significant land parcel. According to a community announcement, the event will take place on Tuesday, March 25, at 7 p.m. at Clinton Township Public Library, 100 Brown St., Clinton.
The presentation will focus on an 80-acre area near the eastern edge of the Irish Hills in Manchester Township, which will become the Iron Creek Nature Preserve. The site includes a section of Iron Creek near Noggles Road.
Sybil Kolon, who donated much of her land for the preserve, will discuss the challenges she faced in preserving the history of a vacant house on the property. She collaborated with the Legacy Land Conservancy, the Manchester Area Historical Society and an Eastern Michigan University graduate student in Preservation Studies to uncover the history of the house and its occupants.
The 1860s farmhouse was deconstructed rather than demolished, allowing for the reuse of materials and providing insights into the two families who lived there for more than 150 years.
Registration open for Lenawee Lifelong Learning classes
Kolon’s family owned the property from 1948 until the donation, while Laura Sutton, another presenter, will share her family’s connection to the land from 1857 until 1947.
