Netflix does a great job of continuously giving its subscribers new films and shows to watch. February was a great month with several new series, including two starring Robert De Niro and Kate Hudson, and a multitude of movies and documentaries to keep viewers busy binge-watching.
Then, the streamer announced a handful of exciting crossover titles, including Lupin star Omar Sy, who will helm an all-new live-action series set in the Extraction universe. Other exciting crossover series and films include fan favorite Peaky Blinders, which was an original series on Netflix in the U.S. and on the BBC in the UK. The streamer recently announced that an original Netflix film starring Cillian Murphy has been greenlit.
Netflix viewers can also look forward to an upcoming animated series based on Stephenie Meyer’s novel, Midnight Sun, which is a part of the Twilight universe. The animated adaptation will be a retelling of Twilight from the perspective of Edward Cullen. =
The streamer announced two more huge franchises, including the adaptation of Nobel Prize-winning author John Steinbeck’s classic 1952 novel East of Eden, which is currently in production on a seven-episode limited series starring and executive produced by Florence Pugh, with Zoe Kazan serving as writer and executive producer. Of note, Kazan’s grandfather, Elia Kazan (On the Waterfront and A Streetcar Named Desire), directed the 1955 East of Eden film starring James Dean. The series will follow the multi-generational Trask family saga as explored from the perspective of the standout female character Cathy Ames, played by Pugh.
Last but certainly not least, the streamer is co-developing an original series with Sony based on the original film Fatherhood. Kevin Hart starred in the film about a single dad who must raise his daughter alone after losing his wife a day after she was born. Hart will executive produce, but he may not star in the televised role. After directing the movie version, Paul Weitz will write and direct the series.
