The 82nd Annual Golden Globe Awards, hosted by comedian Nikki Glaser, averaged 10.1 million viewers across CBS, Paramount+ and the CBS app, according to Dick Clark Productions (via VideoAmp overnight data and streaming data from CBS). At present, CBS’ parent company, Paramount Global, is in a contract dispute with Nielsen, the industry standard, which is why it is not sourced.

Comparably, this was a seven percent increase from the 9.4 million for the year-ago telecast, hosted by Jo Koy, which marked CBS’ first time airing The Golden Globes. Versus the live 2023 telecast on NBC, meanwhile, it was a rise of a significant 50 percent (but still noticeably below pre-Covid levels).

Keep in mind that The Golden Globes this year followed the NFL Football Chiefs-Broncos match-up, which was certainly beneficial.

In live streaming, The 82nd Annual Golden Globes increased by a reported nine percent from last year on Paramount+ and the CBS App. It was the No. 1 broadcast special across all of TV in the last 12 months, driving 40 million social interactions on show night. And, it was the most social Golden Globes to-date, outperforming the 2024 social media numbers for both the Oscars and Grammys.

The bottom-line: In today’s multi content platform landscape, any audience growth from one year earlier is a positive worth nothing. But the lead-in still matters and NFL Football, no doubt, gave The Golden Globes a boost.
